About Us
History
Our 48 cow dairy farm is located in Osceola County, Midwest Michigan. The farm was purchased in 1962 by my dad, William S. Straathof and named it Hilhof Farm. I married Connie in 1982, and now 29 years later we have raised our 3 children who also love farming as a way of life.
Our philosophy is that healthy soil produces healthy food which produces healthy animals and people. Since 1996 we have not used any man made chemicals or herbicides on our soil. Sustainable farming methods have been used and for fertilizer we use composed manure. In 2004 we certified all our crops and cattle organic, and is still certified organic today.
Our cows are out on pasture eight months of the year. During the winter they are kept in a comfort stall barn and are let outside for exercise and fresh air, weather permitting. We use alternative treatments such as homeopathic remedies on all out cattle. No antibiotics or hormones are used.
Our cows are 100% Grass fed, no grains are used in their diet. Studies have proven that organic grass-fed milk is significantly higher in CLA’s, omega3′s, vitamin E, and also has the ideal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids.
Our organic milk in glass bottles which is only pasteurized with a cream line. We do not homogenize our milk. When cream is left in its natural state (you can see it on the top of the milk) it is more easily digestible. That’s because it remains in the digestive system to be broken down by the liver and stored as one of the highest energy sources. Returnable glass bottles are used for freshness and a delicious taste. By recycling these glass bottles we are doing our part in the effort to keep waste out of landfills.
